How to convert a video to 9:16

Open a landscape or square video and it's reshaped to 9:16, the vertical shape of YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Stories. Keep the whole picture on a blurred or black background, or crop a vertical slice you drag into place. A 1080p video becomes 1080 × 1920. It runs in your browser, so the video never leaves your device.

  1. Step 1

    Choose your video
A landscape or square video, from any app or camera.
  2. Step 2

    Fill the 9:16 frame
Keep the whole picture on a blurred or black background, or crop a vertical slice.
  3. Step 3

    Download the video
Save the 9:16 video, ready for Shorts, TikTok, or Reels.

What to expect

Supported inputs
MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, and other video this browser can read.
What happens
The video is re-encoded at 9:16. With a background, the frame keeps the source's short side, so 1920 × 1080 becomes 1080 × 1920. With a crop, the chosen area keeps its own resolution.
Limits
Subtitle tracks are left out. Frames are kept within 3840 × 2160, which browser encoders handle.
