Drop an audio file to compress it
Make an MP3, M4A, WAV, or any recording smaller, by a quality step or to fit a size in MB.
MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, and other audio, or a video with sound.
How to compress an audio file
Open a song, voice recording, podcast, or any MP3, M4A, or WAV. Choose Balanced or Smallest to see about how big the file will be, or choose Size in MB to fit an email, upload form, or app limit, and the sound gets the best quality that fits. An MP3 stays an MP3 and an M4A stays an M4A, while a WAV can stay a WAV or become an MP3 about a tenth of the size. The audio compressor runs in your browser, on your phone or computer, with nothing to install.

What to expect
- Supported inputs
- MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, Ogg, Opus, AAC, AIFF, and other audio this browser’s engine can read, and videos with sound.
- What happens
- The sound is encoded again at a lower bitrate: 128, 96, or 64 kb/s for an MP3, and no lower than 80 kb/s for an M4A. A WAV stays a 16-bit WAV at a lower sample rate or in mono, or is saved as an MP3. A FLAC, AIFF, or video’s sound is saved as an MP3. With a size limit, the finished file is checked against it.
- Limits
- The lowest MP3 bitrate is 32 kb/s, about 14 MB an hour, so a long recording may need cutting to fit a small limit. Only the main sound track is kept.
