Drop a video to remove its background noise

Wind, hum, fans, and room noise are taken out from behind the voice. The picture is copied as it is, so only the sound changes.

Any media file this browser’s engine can read.

How to remove background noise from a video

Open a video or recording of someone talking and choose how much of the background to take out. A speech enhancement model runs on your device, keeps the voice, and removes the noise around it, such as wind, traffic, hum, a fan, or the sound of the room. Listen to the result, then save it.

  1. Step 1

    Choose a video
Pick a video or recording of someone talking.
  2. Step 2

    Choose how much to remove
All, most, or some of the background.
  3. Step 3

    Download the file
Save it with the noise taken out.

What to expect

Supported inputs
Any video or sound file this browser’s engine can read, with a sound track it can decode.
What happens
Every sound track is cleaned by DeepFilterNet3, an open speech enhancement model, and re-encoded at 48 kHz. The picture is copied as it is, and the file keeps its format.
Limits
It’s made for voices. Music and other sounds that aren’t speech count as noise, so a song under the talking is turned down or removed with the rest. A voice buried in very loud noise can come out thin.

Anything that isn’t a voice: wind on the microphone, traffic, mains hum and buzz, fans and air conditioning, keyboard clicks, and the hiss of a quiet room.

Yes. Most turns the noise down by up to 20 dB and Some by up to 10 dB, so the place still sounds like itself. All takes out everything it can.

Mostly, yes. The model keeps voices and treats music as noise. To keep a song, clean the video first, then put the song back with Add audio to video.

Yes. MP3, WAV, M4A, and other recordings are cleaned the same way and saved in their own format. FLAC is saved as WAV, which is also lossless.

No. The model, about 9 MB, is downloaded once and runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
