Privacy

Your files never leave your device

Mastershot opens, converts, and saves your videos inside your browser. They aren't uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we never see them. Your browser keeps a running count of the files you've made, how long they are, and the space they saved, to show you; that stays with it too.

Accounts

Mastershot Studio, our video editor, needs an account. We keep your name and email address, and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your password if you use one. If you sign in with Google, we receive only your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We use these only to sign you in and to send account emails, like confirming your address or resetting your password, and we never share or sell them.

Your account also keeps each Studio project: your edits, the text and subtitles in it, the names of the files it uses, and a small preview image. That way your projects open on any device, and your work isn't lost if your browser's storage is cleared. The videos and other files in a project stay in your browser and aren't uploaded; if a browser doesn't have them, Studio asks you to choose them again. When a project is saved, we keep some earlier versions of it for 30 days, so a mistake can be undone. Deleting a project deletes those too. You can delete your account and everything stored with it from Account settings in Studio's account menu.

If you buy Mastershot Pro, Polar (polar.sh) sells it to you as our reseller. When you open its checkout, we send Polar your name, email address, and an ID for your account, so your payment puts Pro on the right account; your card details go to Polar and its payment processor, never to us. Polar tells us when your subscription starts, changes, or ends. Deleting your account cancels the subscription and asks Polar to remove your details, apart from the order records it has to keep by law.

Studio waitlist

Before Mastershot Studio opened, you could ask to hear when it did. For those addresses we keep the address, when it signed up, and a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address, which stopped one connection from signing up many addresses. We use the address to send the one email saying Studio is open, and to give an account with the same address its free months of Mastershot Pro. We never share or sell it.

Analytics

We use PostHog to improve the service and to detect when bugs occur. PostHog receives your IP address and sets a cookie to recognize a returning visit. Feedback you send us, and an email address if you choose to give one, goes to PostHog too. It never receives your files. We don't sell any data or show ads.
