How to convert MTS to MP4 online

Open an MTS or M2TS file from a Sony, Panasonic, or Canon camcorder and export an MP4. The MTS to MP4 converter copies the H.264 video without re-encoding and converts the Dolby Digital audio, which browsers and many apps can't play, to a format they can.

What to expect

What happens
The H.264 video is copied unchanged, including interlaced 1080i footage. Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio is decoded and re-encoded, usually to AAC.
Limits
Each MTS clip converts on its own; long recordings split by the camera into several files need Combine videos. Subtitle tracks are left out.

It's the AVCHD format camcorders record: H.264 video and Dolby Digital audio in an MPEG transport stream. Blu-ray M2TS files use the same format.

Camcorders record Dolby Digital audio, which Chrome, Firefox, and many apps won't play inside an MP4. Re-encoding it makes the MP4 play everywhere; the video is untouched.
