Files stay on your device

Drop a WhatsApp voice message to turn it into text

The speech is recognized on your device, so nothing is uploaded and there's no limit on length.

MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, and other audio, or a video with sound.

How to convert WhatsApp audio to text

Save the voice note from the chat, open it here, and Mastershot writes down what's said. Read it when you can't play sound, copy it into a reply, or save it as a TXT file. A long voice note is split into paragraphs where the speaker pauses. The message is transcribed in your browser, so it isn't sent to anyone.

  1. Step 1

    Save the voice note
Save it from the chat to your phone or computer.
  2. Step 2

    Transcribe it
The speech is written down on your device.
  3. Step 3

    Copy or download
Copy the text into a reply, or save it.

What to expect

Supported inputs
WhatsApp voice notes and audio messages (.opus from a phone, .ogg from WhatsApp Web), and any other recording or video this browser can read.
What happens
Whisper, a speech recognition model, listens to the voice note on your device and writes down each word with its time. It detects the language, or you can choose it.
Limits
The first time, the browser downloads the 77 MB speech model and keeps it. After that, a one-minute voice note takes about ten seconds. Mumbled speech or loud noise behind the voice makes more mistakes.

Private by design

Your video stays on your device

Mastershot processes your file locally in this browser. It does not need to be uploaded to a server, and you do not need an account to use the tool.

  • No upload
