How to convert PNG to ICO

Add a PNG, such as a logo, and download an ICO file that holds it at 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels. Browsers pick the size they need for a favicon, and Windows does the same for an app or folder icon. The converter runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

  1. Step 1

    Choose your PNG
A square logo at least 256 pixels wide works best.
  2. Step 2

    Check the sizes
Every usual icon size is selected; untick any you don't need.
  3. Step 3

    Download the ICO
Save the icon, or several in a ZIP.

What to expect

Supported inputs
PNG images, and any other picture: JPG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, SVG, BMP, or GIF.
What happens
The picture is scaled down to each size and stored as a PNG inside the ICO, with transparency kept. A picture that isn't square sits in the middle of a transparent square. Sizes bigger than the picture are left out, so it's never blown up.
Limits
ICO holds up to 256 × 256 pixels. Start from a square picture at least 256 pixels wide for the sharpest icon.
