How to resize an image for Instagram
Pick a square post at 1080 × 1080, a portrait post at 1080 × 1350, a landscape post at 1080 × 566, a story or reel at 1080 × 1920, or a profile picture, add your photo, and drag the box over the part to keep. It's saved at exactly that size, so Instagram has nothing left to crop. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.

What to expect
- Supported inputs
- JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, BMP, GIF, and SVG. HEIC photos from an iPhone open in Chrome, Edge, and Safari on most computers, but not in Firefox.
- What happens
- The crop box keeps the preset's shape while you drag it, and the part inside is drawn at the preset's pixels. A JPG, PNG, or WebP stays in its format unless you choose another, and a HEIC photo becomes JPG, which Instagram's website accepts.
- Limits
- Instagram compresses every upload again, so a picture already at the right size and under about 1 MB changes least. The profile grid shows a middle 3:4 part of each post, so keep what matters near the center of a landscape or portrait post.
